Health Coaches Share Their Tips for Staying Healthy During the Winter Months

During the cold, winter months, catching the flu or a cold seems inevitable. But there are quite a few things you can do to keep your immune system strong—even if you work in an office and the guy in the cubicle next to you Won’t. Stop. Coughing.

Three health coaches and wellness experts share their tips for staving off cold and flu season with these simple practices.

Get your omega-3s

“There are a handful of ways I strengthen and protect my immune system. Omega-3 fatty acids are an absolute must-have. Be sure to research and find a pure high-quality omega-3 supplement, as most of them come from really low-grade fatty fish.” —Jorge Cruise, celebrity wellness coach

Stay hydrated

“Staying hydrated with hydrogen water is extremely important for your lymphatic system and helps your body flush out any toxins.” —Jorge Cruise

“This time of year, I like to brew tea out of star anise because it’s great for staving off the flu. Sometimes I’ll add a cinnamon stick, a chunk of ginger and Manuka honey.” —Mia Russo Stern, health coach and natural foods chef

Manage your stress

“De-stress with yoga, and other mind-body group X classes. Invite your friends to yoga before holiday shopping. And sleep—go to bed and wake up at the same time each day, and get at least 8 hours [if possible].” —Antoinette Gemo, regional group X director and yoga instructor, 24 Hour Fitness
