Cruise Control: Bone Health and Navigating Fitness and Health Trends

This month, we’re tackling some big subjects, including speaking your authentic truth and navigating the tricky waters of fitness and health trends—plus unpacking the skeletal system and what we can do for better bone health.

24Life asked celebrity trainer and expert Jorge Cruise to share how he lives authentically every day, how to find trustworthy health sources, and foods for better bone health.

24Life: There are so many conflicting messages the media sends about fitness and health, and it seems like every week there’s a new diet or trend that we should follow. How do you navigate that, and where do you find sources you trust?

Jorge Cruise: In 2016, the health and fitness industry was worth $83 billion. Misguided health and fitness information is at our fingertips, and we are constantly bombarded with the next best fitness plan or diet. I love to read, so I am always hunting for books from credible doctors and nutritionist. More times than not, these health professionals have their main jobs and write books because they’re committed to changing lives through knowledge and awareness. If you are reading a blog or an article, make sure the facts are supported by credible research studies from top scientists or universities.

24Life: What are some ways you’ve vowed to live authentically?

JC: I try to be as raw and real about my health journey so that others can relate and receive the support they need. My health journey has shaped who I am, and because of it, I have dedicated my life to helping others. My No. 1 rule is practicing what I preach. Everything I recommend to my clients, friends and family, I have researched, studied and tested on myself for years. This is why my Cruisers do so well because it is a lifestyle me and my family live by every day.

24Life: Any foods that I should add into my diet to help strengthen my bones—especially women?

JC: Women who want to have strong, healthy bones should eat foods rich in calcium, magnesium, zinc and vitamin C.

24Life: Do you drink bone broth, and do you recommend your clients add it to their diet?

JC: Absolutely! Bone broth is a great source of collagen, gelatin and protein. As we get older, our skin, joint cartilage and bones start to diminish over time. I recommend bone broth to all my clients because it provides the necessary vitamins and nutrients our bones need to restore muscle tissue and bone density.
