Reading Time: 2 minutes

Four ways to tune into that still, small voice that is you strength.

When Michelangelo, a 16th century sculptor, was asked how he was able to create such beautiful works of art from marble, he replied: “I keep chipping away at the stone to reveal the masterpiece that is inside.”

In order to uncover our own masterpiece, we need to chip away at the distractions of our day and our life. We need to tune into that voice deep inside of us that is our ultimate guide. That voice is the masterpiece waiting to be expressed. That voice can show up throughout our life to guide us as we make decisions or to warn us when we are too far away from our true self. The art of creativity and confidence is the art of tuning into that voice.

Unlocking your masterpiece and tuning into that voice isn’t always easy. We get distracted. We lose focus. It takes concentrated effort and practice to tune in and align. Below are a few things you can do each day to tune in, unlock your masterpiece and unleash your creativity.

1. Start with what and why

What do you want to accomplish? What are your goals? Why is achieving that so important to you? To unlock your creativity, you need to know what you are trying to accomplish and why. Your why is what drives you. It is easy to get distracted by things going on in your life. So refocus today (and every day) on what you want and why you want it.

2. Create time and space

Tuning into your what and why is the first step. Once you are aligned to what you want to accomplish and why, it is important to create space for your creativity to flow. Creating time and space for creativity allows yourself to come up with novel solutions or ideas. Find five minutes each day to tune in free of distractions.

3. Be deliberate

Life is the biggest distraction of all! Even if we align to what we want to accomplish and why, life happens. Just like the practice of meditation, life will lead you off course, and you need to bring your focus back. It is a deliberate practice of setting an intention, noticing when life has taken you off course and refocusing back to your intention. Keep showing up.

4. Be compassionate

On the journey to unleash your creativity and unlock your masterpiece, you are likely going to make mistakes and get sidetracked. That is OK. Being compassionate allows you to get back on track quickly. Acknowledge the distractions and detours, and then bounce back. No need to be hard on yourself. Just recognize you aren’t where you wanted to be and build a plan to get back on track.

Take some time today, even if it is only five minutes, to start with what and why. Let your mind go. Don’t limit yourself and see what comes up. Then each day create the space to tune in and reconnect with that voice inside of you. Let it inspire you and guide you. Be deliberate and compassionate when you get off track. Unlocking your masterpiece is a journey. It is a process. Don’t get discouraged if it isn’t happening yet. Keep showing up, keep chipping away. Before you know it, your masterpiece will be revealed.

I enjoyed this article. The insight to being your own self motivator is important. At the end of the day we are always faced with ourselves and need to be at peace with who we are and what road in life we have chosen, otherwise change it.
