Celebrity Trainer Jorge Cruise Talks Sugar and Healthy Travel Tips

We asked the best-selling author and celebrity fitness coach to share his advice on sugar consumption, his healthy tips for traveling and more.

Halloween is around the corner, which means sugary treats are plentiful, and the holiday season is busy with travel, family gatherings and hearty meals. Celebrity fitness expert Jorge Cruise answers 24Life readers’ questions about how to balance holiday travel and treats with a healthy life—and how to finish the year healthy and strong.

24Life: Do you have any advice on sugar consumption? Do I have to give it up completely?

Jorge Cruise (JC): Absolutely not! Treats are necessary from time to time, and life wouldn’t be fun without them. The trick is to shift your mindset about treats, by avoiding harmful artificial ingredients, and gravitating towards nature’s most delicious treats. Real foods like fruit and nuts can be decadent and delightful. My favorite go-to snack when I’m craving something sweet is blended berries with almond milk—it’s creamy and nutritious.

Now that we are in the fall season, I love to slice apples and sprinkle them with cinnamon and give them a quick toast, then pair with smooth almond butter and shaved cacao. It’s a perfect dessert and afternoon pick-me-up. No need to limit yourself, just choose smart sugars.

24Life: I have set a really big goal and made some progress, but I’m losing steam. How do I stay motivated?

JC: Focus on your why: Why did you set your goal in the first place? Hold onto your reasons and reignite your fire to keep moving. Remember, life is a marathon, not a sprint. Keep pressing forward to reach your finish line, and know you are worth the effort and hard work. The payoff is always worth it!

24Life: I’m traveling a lot in November—what should I pack to stay healthy?

JC: Traveling can be taxing, and the best way to say on track is to be prepared. Packing your favorite snacks and mimicking your typical routine are great ways to stay healthy. I always bring my pea protein powder and baggies of nuts for times I’m in a pinch. Fresh fruit and veggies are easy to pick up at the store to have on hand.

24Life: What is your favorite fall activity?

JC: Now that the weather is cooling down, I love to get outside and play a game of soccer with my boys, or go for a long hike to enjoy nature’s changes. Getting out and experiencing your environment with friends and family is the perfect way to start the holiday season.
